Hypogastrura nivicola

"Springtails" or "snow fleas" are tiny insect-like hexapods that help break down rotting wood. Easiest to spot in early spring, they can be seen jumping on the surface of snow with the help of the anti-freeze they produce– or, clinging to fallen wood litter.
