The Paria River cuts a path through red Navajo sandstone as it heads south to join the Colorado River at the birthplace of the Grand Canyon.
Archeologists believe that Paria Canyon was used as a trading and travel route by Indigenous Americans for 10,000 years or so before the first Europeans arrived in the region in 1770s.
