Tensor In Vitro

Tensor In Vitro (2022) is an animation series inspired by the process by which it came to life: artificial conception. Made in collaboration by Cody Samson and Chicago multi-media artists Sophie Sturdevant and Sean Williams, the works in this series were conceived in a digital test-tube. Coupling Samson’s generative 3D animation with the stylings of Williams’ and Sturdevant’s vibrant illustrations, artificial intelligence was utilized as a virtual IVF, producing five “offspring” of these fundamentally unique works of art. Each piece deals with facets of human reproduction, using illustrative abstractions to bridge the gap between literal and metaphysical.
