Noumeno

The word noumenon comes from the Greek verb noeo, which means to think, and being its present medium-passive participle it literally translates as: “what is thought”. The concept of noumenon is used by Plato (later by Kant) to indicate an idea that cannot be experienced in the sensible world, but which can be reached through reasoning. The noumenon is therefore everything that is thought or thinkable by pure intellect, a "everything" of which we do not have and cannot have a sensible experience. In this sense, the noumenon is distinguished from the phenomena which, conversely, are precisely the things that appear in sensible reality.
