The Altamont Pass Wind Resource Area in Livermore were first developed for wind power in the late 1970s, and with that the Wind energy generation on a commercial scale was born in the USA. The 50,000-acre Area, one of the nation’s oldest wind farms, serves as a functioning museum of wind technology. The sleek new state-of-the-art windmill turbines are majestic giants at 430 feet tall from the base to the tip of the blade, and stand taller than the tallest coast redwood trees.
