When an animal stares into my lens, it’s a moment of deep connection I can hardly believe, and never forget. I am still and quiet but I do not hide. The stare is the moment I realize I’m not just a passive observer. It’s the moment I become part of their world. In this simple, easy relationship we acknowledge each other directly. No fear. No aggression. I want to share this special moment through my art so that we may all understand that we are part of the natural world and not separate from it. Come close. Be still. Feel connected. ‘Stare’ is a body of work I’ve photographed over the past 15 years.
