MERIT - the quality of being particularly good or worthy, especially so as to deserve praise or reward. I want to describe this as best I can. Information from my observations and input from my wife indicate that making merit is a core aspect of the local Buddhist practice. In Thai it is "tam bun" (tahm - do; boon - merit) It seems that a person can donate their merit. Perhaps, only to those not incarnate; ancestors or someone who passed too young. Daily practice involves feeding the monks. Regularly, there are gatherings at local temples. People give time and money to support them. A common gift is a statue.
