MOTION EARTH

The Reykjanes Peninsula in southwest Iceland is the continuation of the mostly submarine Reykjanes Ridge, a part of the Mid-Atlantic Ridge, on land. The peninsula is also, geologically the youngest part of Iceland. After nearly 800 years of inactivity and more than 50.000 earthquakes from mid January 2021 the magma found its way up to the surface and created a new fissure on the evening of 19th of March 2021. Fagradalsfjall volcano was born !
