Indonesia is the world’s largest archipelago. From Sabang on the extreme west coast of Sumatra, to Merauke on its’ eastern border with Papua New Guinea , 17,000 islands inhabit 4 time zones, spread 5,200 kilometers along the Equator. Yet very few visitors venture far from the tourist mecca of Bali.
Inspired by the work of Nat Geo photographer William Albert Allard, I decided to traverse the nation, shooting mainly with a cheap and unobtrusive 35mm f/2 fixed lens. The results collected here are my personal take on contemporary Indonesia, far from the typical imagery of white sandy beaches and luxury resorts.
