To say this another way: our technology for dealing with information is restricted to materials with periodic structures. To encode/process information in a nonperiodic environment, we use an n-hedral tiling. There are n different types of tiles, i.e. every tile is congruent to one of n fixed subsets of the plane, called prototiles. My favorite is the Penrose Tiling combined with the Game of Life theory, cellular automata, game theory, machine learning, and singularity. I am writing a singularity equation that includes the reverse of Murphy's law:
