‘Peace for Ukraine’ is an Anti War poster inspired by some of my favorite artists, BANKSY and Shepard Fairey. It’s an original painting created directly on a sheet of 30 uncut Ukrainian Hryvnia (the local currency) which my dad got from a rare currency dealer.
The significance of the sunflower in this piece is from a story I heard right at the beginning of the war. The story goes like this: there was a Russian soldier standing in a civilian area. a woman walks up to the soldier and hands him sunflower seeds to put in his pocket, she says that when the he dies on Ukrainian soil, his body will plant a flower patch. thus making the sunflower a universal sign of rebellion in Ukraine.
