Shooting film is a chemical process...Light reacts with silver particles to burn an image onto a negative. When film is loaded into the camera part of the negative is exposed to light. When the photographer shoots the first frame, half or more of the image is blank, burned in light, creating a unique first image. We refer to this frame as “first of the roll.” The “first of the roll” is the beginning of a film photographer's creative process, using the following frames to capture our visions, chasing light and shadows.
